Design

On the reverse side of the coin there is an image of a peach. Georgia is known as The Peach State and this fruit has long been a part of the state's history. In addition to the peach there are two live oak branches on the coin. These branches pay tribute to the state's official tree, the live oak. Georgia's state motto can also be seen on the coin. The state motto is 'Wisdom, Justice, Moderation'.

The year 1788 is inscribed on the coin because this was the year that Georgia officially joined the union.

Value

The value will depend on the series and the coin's condition. Below we will examine the value for each series.

Clad Quarters

The standard 1999 Georgia clad quarters in circulated condition are only worth their face value of $0.25. These coins only sell for a premium in the higher condition grades.

Both the 1999 P Georgia quarter and 1999 D Georgia quarter are each worth around $0.50 in about uncirculated condition. The value is around $2 in uncirculated condition with an MS 63 grade. Uncirculated coins with a grade of MS 65 can sell for around $5.

The 1999 S proof Georgia quarter is worth around $7 in PR 65 condition.

Silver Proof Quarter

This coin is worth at least its weight in silver. The silver melt value for this coin is $4.93 as of February 09, 2021. This melt value is calculated from the current silver spot price of $27.26 per ounce.

Grading System

About uncirculated- There is a slight trace of wear on the high points of the design. Half of the coin's mint luster is still intact.

MS 63 choice uncirculated- In the major focal areas there are some blemishes or contact marks. The coin's luster might not be as prominent.

MS 65 gem uncirculated- There is strong luster and eye appeal. A few light contact marks may be present but they are barely noticeable.

PR 65 proof- There are no flaws to this coin. A few blemishes may be present.

Background

Released on May 17, 1999, this is the third coin released in the 50 State Quarters Program and the third released in 1999. New Jersey, admitted into the Union on December 18, 1787, themed the coin, Crossroads of the Revolution.

President William J. Clinton was in office when this legislation was signed. Three United States Mint Directors served under President Clinton’s tenure; David J. Ryder of Idaho, Philip N. Diehl of Texas, and Jay W. Johnson of Wisconsin.
